The Chedi Andermatt hotel is situated 1,447 metres above sea level in Andermatt between the Oberalp, St. Gotthard and Furka pass. Captivating and striking in its otherness, this luxury hotel offers an extraordinary blend of Swiss Alpine chic and Asian Zen. Glossy Alpine wood, smooth leather sofas, over 200 fireplaces and numerous panorama windows offer a warm and cosy spot to linger awhile. This perfect harmony bears the signature of star architect Jean-Michel Gathy (the most influential architect of luxury hotels) and was planned and designed by renowned architecture firm Denniston International Architects & Planners Ltd.
It is a 70-minute drive from Zurich, or if you prefer, two hours by train.
The hotel is right opposite the station at one end of Andermatt’s main street, which has a handful of bakeries, bars, hotels, restaurants and handicraft shops in place of glitz and glam. Only 15 minutes walk from the golf course and two from the Nätschen gondola connecting the Andermatt and Sedrun ski areas. The Gemsstock gondola is just a few minutes away by chauffeured ski bus.
The Chedi Andermatt
The hotel is arrestingly handsome, it is a chalet-like resort.
With more than 200 fireplaces and numerous panorama, windows offer a warm and cosy spot to linger awhile, offering 123 elegant rooms and suites, award-winning restaurants and bars and a spa that is unique in Switzerland – an oasis of calm and relaxation.
The Chedi Andermatt has been named Hotel of the Year 2017 by the renowned restaurant guide Gault & Millau and is one of the best hotels in Europe and awarded the “Spa and Health Club” winner in 2020 by World Luxury Hotel.
Granite and dark woods mirror the jagged flank that backs the hotel, making The Chedi’s nine towering chalets with slatted double façades blend into the landscape. Thanks to soft-focus-filter-like lighting, a warm palette of browns and the fireplace-warmed spaces full of armchairs and fur cushions, the mood is intimate despite the five-metre ceilings and cavernous corridors. It’s a mix of a mountain retreat with Asian influences.

The SPA review
In keeping with the hotel’s congenial vibe, the SPA isn’t hidden away in sealed-off quarters: instead, the impressive 35m pool extends beyond the lounge bar, where the warm glow of the log fires blends almost imperceptibly into the reflection of the soft lighting that ripples on the surface of the water. The private pool with its seamless transition between indoors and out; access to in-house guests and residence owners only. You will spend quality time there, together or browse through your holiday reading on the plush daybeds and sofas while the fire crackles in the rich Alpine wood relaxation lounge. Watch snowfall on the soaring pine trees just beyond our elegant 35-metre indoor pool and gaze at the Swiss peaks in the distance. Dive in for a rigorous aquatic workout or relax over tapas and classic cocktails. In the summer, you can sunbathe next to our 12-metre outdoor pool.
That’s just the beginning: the 2400m² spa area features further pools outside and downstairs, as well as multiple saunas and steam rooms, a state-of-the-art gym and a yoga studio.

The Chedi Andermatt review
Located in the heart of the Swiss Alps, Andermatt is the perfect destination for nature lovers and outdoor sports enthusiasts, whatever the time of year. In winter, the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun, central Switzerland’s largest ski resort, is the perfect place for cross-country skiing, winter hiking and snowshoeing.
We have been to Chedi several times and are looking to forward to going again.
The rooms are very spacious with two coatrooms. The first coatroom is located by the entrance of the room for your ski clothes/ sports clothes, and the other one by the bathroom where you can get dressed. Great shower, etc. The beds are just amazing!!! (from Hästens). We decided to have a few drinks at the lobby of the Chedi, it was such exclusive yet very welcoming and friendly to everyone. The hotel is beautiful with a unique architecture that makes it cosy and elegant. The staff are all very well trained and friendly, taking their job seriously and serving at best.
We would recommend to always explicitly request a room in the main building facing the courtyard. The other side is looking onto the parking.
Good room infotainment, light, temperature, chimney, music settings all can be managed through the iPad in the room.
Food to recommend is the spicy beef salad as well as the pepper beef.
The Swimming Pool
Somehow expensive, but considering the high-level, this is quite expected
