ice Q Restaurant review – superb
Among Sölden’s many restaurants and attractions, we should not miss the iconic ice Q Restaurant, an architectural masterpiece – where the shimmering of the glass facades and pure steel meets rock – build on top of a mountain at an altitude of 3.048 meters. That’s our positive ice Q restaurant review, from our last visit in August 2021.
We visited Sölden many times, during Summer as this location is indeed representing a perfect mountain destination, offering several attractions and a huge variety of activities. Also, accommodations and restaurants are amazing! We stayed at the fabulous 5-star Bergland Design and Wellness hotel (click here for the review).
The ice Q Restaurant is where the sophisticated gourmet delights combine with fine wines and dreamy panoramas to create one exceptional symbiosis. They are serving delicious foods, and excellent desserts (our preferred was the famous Apple Strudel).
In the mountain restaurant ice Q in Sölden awarded 2020 by Gault Millau with 2 toques – you get to feel life with all your senses. Right at the Gaislachkoglbahn in Sölden. This is the ideal location for the most exclusive break in the Austrian Alps.
The entire construction area of ice Q spans an impressive 4500 cubic metres.
Just behind the restaurant, you can also find the “007 Elements“, the dedicated cinematic installation. We will soon post our review, stay tuned!
ice Q Restaurant – Location
Austria’s highest located toque-rated gourmet restaurant ice Q in Sölden, located on the top of the mountain, is surrounded by over 250 superb three-thousand-metre mountains.
This was the spectacular shooting location for the James Bond SPECTRE movie (official trailer below).
James Bond Spectre
A building such as the ice Q restaurant, which sparkles so uniquely in the midst of the Ötztal Alps, is an eye-catcher per se. There is no longer any doubt that director Sam Mendes would find the right scene, and obviously, this is also the reason as we wanted to rate this amazing place and share the ice Q restaurant review – we liked it!
James Bond discovered ice Q restaurant, on the Gaislachkogl mountain peak, as an exclusive filming location in Tyrol. In January and February 2015 Daniel Craig alias James Bond and five hundred of his colleagues and film crew went to Sölden – the hotspot of the Alps. And it is little wonder – barely anywhere else is there a more spectacular venue.
The abundant snow and the glacier tunnel provided a noteworthy setting for the action-packed pursuits. This is something director Sam Mendes was aware of – and the valley of the three-thousand-metre mountains, as Ötztal is often called, without further ado, became the backdrop for key and speedy action scenes in the blockbuster.
The gourmet restaurant ice Q was not only significant as a luxurious dining area for the actor. The futuristic architecture also had a key role to play in the film – but not as a gourmet restaurant, but as a futuristic clinic, where Bond’s opposite Christoph Waltz got up to evil doings.
How to get to the ice Q restaurant
Right next to the mountain station of the Gaislachkogl cable car in Sölden. Car parking is available at the valley station of the Gaislachkogl cable car.
A cable car ride (return-trip) is included in the Ötztal Inside Summer Card.

Amazing place and excellent dining experience at this restaurant.
Perched high up the mountain, accessed by two cable cars ride (it takes about 20 minutes from Sölden down – the town I mean).
The drinks and food are quite expensive, but reasonable considering the peculiarity of the location and… eating at the same place as James Bond was filmed, it’s worth it!
The ice Q restaurant is, indeed, highly recommend! 😎
