Turin – Italy

We visited Turin many times during the last few years, as we have several friends living there. During our last visit, we stayed at the Turin Palace Hotel, a great 4* hotel, right in the city centre. Click here for the full review. Don’t miss one of the best restaurants in Turin.

Lively and elegant, always on the move, incredibly, Torino is a city immersed in greenery, with over 300 km of tree-lined avenues and countless parks: gently leaning against the hills and embraced by the Po, it owes much of its charm to its enchanting geographical position at the foot of the western Alps.

After having hosted the Olympic Winter Game in 2006, Turin has drastically changed and improved. As well as being redesigned. It is an excellent destination you should consider visiting, so let’s travel to Turin!

I have a great memory of my visit to Turin. The Piedmont capital city has a lot to offer to visitors. Including the museums, beautiful squares (just to mention Piazza Vittorio Veneto and Piazza San Carlo and the famous Piazza Castello), cosy restaurants and thousands of bars and places where people can meet and enjoy social meetings.

The Royal Residences are also magnificent and very well maintained.

We can see that the city of Turin has invested in tourism while respecting as much as possible its history and highlighting its cultural heritage.

And, of course, as everywhere in Italy, the food is super good!

Torino is an aristocratic “old lady” more than two thousand years old, having Roman origins whose vestiges are still visible in “her” main monuments (Porte Palatine – just to mention one), streets, squares and underground. It’s indeed a re-born “old lady”, built out of her own ashes. Close to France, Turin and especially its city centre offers the same romantic and elegant atmosphere. I would consider it more dynamic, innovative and modern than the rest of the other Italian cities, and most importantly, always proud of her great past.

Here is Torino, a city you don’t expect! Click here to read Turin’s reviews.

New York – USA

We have been visiting New York in winter (for New Year’s Eve). It was a bit freezy, but we still have great memories of our journey to NYC and that’s because we are listing it along with our reviewed destinations.

When we travel to NYC, we decided to stay at the Conrad New York Downtown Hotel, a magnificent 5-star hotel in low Manhattan. (click here to read our travel review)

New York City geography is composed of five boroughs.  While Manhattan and Staten Island are islands, Brooklyn and Queens are geographically part of Long Island, and the Bronx is attached to the US mainland. The islands are linked by bridges, tunnels and ferries.

The Manhattan Island is roughly 13.4 miles long and about 2.3 miles wide at its widest. Except at its northern and southern tips, the borough’s avenues run roughly north and south, and streets run east and west.

NYGO Official video – let’s visit New York!

With stunning architecture and lush parks, New York is one of the world’s most beautiful cities. The faster and easiest way to have a complete overview of the city is by a double-decker bus tour. Also, you can enjoy a spectacular skyline view with a ride on the Staten Island Ferry.

Because during our stay in New York City, the weather wasn’t very pleasant (it was the end of December, with lots of snow and freezy wind), we decided to have a helicopter trip above Manhattan. We will soon post our full review… stay tuned!

Of course, we should mention not miss catchy sky-high views from a rooftop bar at the Empire State Building or One World Observatory (our review here).

Sölden – Austria

We have been visited Sölden many times across the last ten years. It has been our favourite summer holiday location thanks to the various attractions and services this small Austrian town is offering.

Söledn – village view

Sölden is, indeed, a splendid hiking vacation destination. This location combines action, adventure and relaxation. With more than 300 km of hiking trails – sometimes broad and easy, sometimes narrow and steep – lead from the valley floor to the surrounding mountain slopes. Right across moss-green coniferous forests, over lush Alpine pastures into a world of granite and gneiss, along ice-cold mountain brooks and turquoise lakes to the snow of the eternal glaciers. The huge variety of hiking routes and comfy mountain lifts make your Alpine dream come true – for athletic alpinists, leisurely hikers and families.

The Almzeit theme trail for families boasts enchanting Alpine experiences coupled with mountain lift rides or untouched natural spots on Sölden’s Silent Part. If you don’t want to climb up to the pastures and huts alone, you can join like-minded people in perfectly organized hiking programs or conquer new heights together with a local mountain guide.

So not the question is: what is the best hotel in Sölden? After having stayed at several hotels, we indeed consider the Bergland Design and Wellness Hotel one of the best in town. Check the full travel review to this 5* hotel.

Another Söled masterpiece, located at the top of a 3000 m. high mountain is the ICE Q restaurant. You are strongly suggested to spend a visit there in case you will stay in the Tyrol mountain. This amazing restaurant, not only famous for its cousin, but also for the location, is very welcoming and appreciated by all the visitors. Have a look at our restaurant review here.

we liked it - Singapore

Singapore is a sunny, tropical island in Southeast Asia, off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It is a city, a nation and a state. It is about 275 square miles, smaller than the State of Rhode Island, and inhabited by five million people from four major communities; Chinese (majority), Malay, Indian and Eurasian. Since its independence in 9 August 1965, the country has adopted a parliamentary democracy system. Currently, the government and the cabinet are led by Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong while President Halimah Yacob is the Head of State.

Singapore is known as a City in a Garden and nearly 50 per cent of the island is green space.

When we have visited Singapore, we went to the famous Gardens by The Bay (the review is available here).

Singapore is a thriving metropolis offering world-class infrastructure, a fully integrated island-wide transport network, dynamic business environment, vibrant living spaces and a rich culture largely influenced by the four major communities in Singapore with each offering a different perspective of life in terms of culture, religion, food, language and history.

Fritzens – Austria

During our stay in Austria, we went to this nice small town and enjoyed a nice visit to Rochelt (click here for a complete review).

Fritzens is a small town, located about 16 km in the east of Innsbruck close to Wattens, which is famous for its Swarovski Crystal Worlds. In 1170 AD Fritzens was documented for the first time as “Frucines”. The village developed out of the Meierhof farm, which was in charge of the milling, hunting and fishing rights. The emblem of the municipality illustrates a silver earth-ware jar in the lower part, referring to the Fritzens-Sanzeno culture, and a black bear in the upper part, referring to the Bärenbach river (bear river).

The small, but pretty village of Fritzens is much revered in gourmet circles and also way beyond the region’s boundaries. The striking bottles of the Fritzens-based Rochelt company, which makes high-class schnapps and brandies from the finest fruit, are essential stock items for every award-winning restaurant. But there are other brandy distilleries in Fritzens, such as Zalesky and Zimmermann, and guided tours through the fascinating world of fruit brandies are available to interested parties.

The history of this attractive village, which is repeatedly voted the prettiest floral village in the district, goes back to the La Tène era. Fragments of pottery, known as “Fritzner Keramik”, played an important part in unravelling the mysteries of Tyrol’s distant past. The gently rolling countryside around Fritzens is inviting territory, particularly for families been to undertake interesting days out and explore higher altitudes. But one special attraction well worth a visit is the parish church, where precious carvings and portrayals of the church’s patron, John the Baptist, provide good opportunities to stop and reflect.

Nature lovers might like to use Fritzens as a base for a wide variety of activities. There are a variety of walking trails for all levels, from an easy stroll to more arduous walking tours. The gently rolling hills around the Tyrolean village are much loved by families, even those with buggies. It’s a great place for a day out in the beautiful Alpine countryside.

In recent years more and more pilgrims have been passing through the municipality as they make their way along the Tyrolean section of the Way of St James. And they often stop off here for a break.

We love Côte D’Azur, and we spend most of our time travelling to this magnificent destination and visiting each of the different small villages on the French Riviera coast. In particular, Cannes is one of our preferred destinations. It is so chick and elegant.
